YouTube, changed the way we think about the web forever…

As an actor, I always wondered what it must have been like to be around in the early days of TV:  “I Love Lucy“, “The Honeymooners“, “Ed Sullivan“, “Perry Mason“… My Mom used to talk about what it was like to gather with her friends at a neighbours home who had an “Enormous 12″ Black & White TV“.

In this age of Blueray and HD it’s pretty amazing that everyday more and more people tune in to watch fuzzy pixelated images online.  You’d think with the focus on the Ultimate Audio/Video Experience with everything from Plazma to Dolby Surround that the general public would laugh at the Primitive viewing experience that YouTube provides…so why is it that YouTube viewership is up 45%!?! Meanwhile TV is complaining about a poor economy and lack of interest…

One Word:  Social Media… (ok that’s two words)

The ability to create and upload YOUR content, or comment on someone elses content has changed the rules.  We now have the opportunity to move from Armchair QB to Onfield Player with the click of a mouse and a webcam.  How many times have you yelled at a bad call during your favorite sports broadcast…now you can be heard   The power to be HEARD is much greater than the power to listen (Even though my Grandmother always commented that two ears vs. one mouth gave us the proper math…)

Give people the chance to comment and they’ll stick around, even if they don’t exercise the right.  The sheer fact that you allow it shows them you’re listening.

…SO I’ve added a new little feature, courtesy of viddler.  You can now leave video comments so serve them up.  It would be fun to put faces to names and get a chance to know you a little better.  I’m even looking into creating a video chat room if things take off so we can talk live once in a while.

Web  video is here to stay, so have some fun and give us your view of the world once in a while…who knows, you could be the Web’s first OPRAH
