The Power of Focus
“Most people have a focus that’s a mile wide and and inch deep. Tiger Woods has a focus an inch wide and a mile deep.” Jack Nicholas
I’ve been fighting a pretty nasty case of ‘Prostatitis’ this past month and it’s about as much fun as sitting on a bear trap. Pain is a spiritual teacher. It’s like that old saying about character being like tea…you don’t know what yours is until you find yourself in hot water.
The question really is, when the chips are down, what is it that you are focusing on? If you follow my podcast you’ve heard me talk about fear and how your expectations of future events ultimately affect their outcome purely by the way you observe them in your mind and the feelings you attach to them. In my case, as I type this, I’m in a fair bit of pain. So I have a choice. I can focus on the discomfort, or I can embrace the opportunity to extract a lesson from it and ultimately share what I find there with you. I’m picking what’s behind door number two
What you give your attention is pretty much what you get. Hang around negative people, or negative beliefs for that matter and everything that comes your way is pretty much guaranteed to be negative… ‘GI-GO’ (that’s Garbage In – Garbage Out not a South American dance band…) The best part is, the opposite is also entirely true. Look for the best in people and in situations and you’ll usually find it. And if you don’t, that in itself is a valuable lesson. It means you simply need to look somewhere else
I often wonder, as a marketing guy, if writing and talking about the things that I do is really what you want to hear. Interesting thought, but the answer comes pretty clear to me. I write the things that I do because they have meaning to me and I can see the impact the totality of it has on my life and on other people’s lives as well. It’s like Frank Kern talking about ‘Advanced Strategies’ in his Infomillionaire promo video, when he goes on to say you’ll be learning things like
- How to ‘Cut and Paste’
- How to build a basic website
- How to use FTP
Advanced Strategies is a code word for ‘Stuff YOU need to learn, even though you think you don’t’. We all want the silver bullet, but basic focus is usually what’s really keeping us from getting where we’d like to go.
So here’s today’s challenge. Take a good look in your mind at the way you observe and interpret things. Are you looking at life the way you want it to be or the way you DON’T want it to be. Important stuff. Look at the ditch, you’ll likely find your way there, look for prosperity…and as the saying goes “I’ll see you on the beach”

Dear Phil,
I suffered and I still am from prostatis. This has been my 13′th month with it and it took me 6 months to learn to deal with it.
Now I can say that the discomfort is pretty much at 1 on a scale from 1 to 10. I strongly advice you to take Zinc supplements, Vitamin E forte, Vitamin A, Selenium and a medicine called Seren (based on a plant called “Serenoa Repens”) and be very patient. It will eventually become manageable. Anyways check out this website that can bring some additional info: http://www.prostatitis2000.org/
All the best,
Silviu
Silviu,
I really appreciate the advice! One of my clients is a Naturopath and he’s just put me on a supplement plan that seems to be doing the trick. It’s amazing what happens when you look to nature to solve your problems
Thanks A Ton!!
Phil
